Frequently Asked Questions

What happened to Android File Transfer?

Google discontinued Android File Transfer for Mac in 2024. Flyng uses the Quick Share protocol (formerly Nearby Share) which is Google's current solution for Android file sharing—but Google never made a Mac version.

Do I need to install anything on my Android?

No! Quick Share is built into Android. Just select files on your phone, tap Share, choose Quick Share, and your Mac will appear as a destination.

Doesn't Quick Share work with AirDrop now?

Yes—but only Pixel 9 and 10 can send to Apple devices via AirDrop. That's a tiny fraction of Android users. Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and billions of other Android phones can't use it. Flyng works with every Android device that has Quick Share.

How is this different from other apps?

Unlike LocalSend or Snapdrop, Flyng uses the native Quick Share protocol—the same one built into your Android. No app install needed on your phone, no QR codes, no browser tabs. Just share like you normally would. Compared to NearDrop, Flyng offers a more polished experience with sound notifications, transfer history, and active development.

What macOS versions are supported?

Flyng requires macOS 12 (Monterey) or later.

Is it a subscription?

No. Flyng Pro is a one-time purchase with pay-what-you-want pricing ($0.99 minimum). Pay once, use forever. The free tier never expires either.

Is my payment secure?

Absolutely. All payments are processed securely by Stripe, the same payment infrastructure used by Amazon, Google, and millions of businesses worldwide. We never see or store your card details.

Are my files private?

100%. Flyng transfers files directly between your Android and Mac over your local network—peer-to-peer. Your files never pass through our servers or any cloud service. We can't see what you're sharing.

Why isn't Flyng on the Mac App Store?

Apple doesn't allow pay-what-you-want pricing on the App Store. We believe you should decide what the app is worth to you. Distributing directly also means faster updates and no Apple middleman taking 30%.
